Orthopaedics East & Sports Medicine Center
Website, SEO, Google Business Profile & Social Audit

An honest look at orthoeast.com and the practice's online footprint from the team that already hosts the site. What is working, what we found, and what we would do in the next 90 days.

Snapshot scorecard

Scored 1–5 on what we could verify. The gap between reputation (excellent) and discoverability (average) is the whole story.

WebsiteSEOGoogle Business ProfileSocialTracking & conversion 3 / 52 / 53 / 52 / 52 / 5 12345
Website3/5

Live, secure, maintained WordPress/Divi build from 2021. Duplicate legacy URLs and a phone-first booking page hold it back.

SEO2/5

Rank Math is installed but under-used: generic title tag, no structured data, no blog, no service-area pages.

Google Business Profile3/5

Huge review volume, but directory hours contradict the weekend walk-in clinic and duplicate "Orthopedic East" listings exist.

Social2/5

Two different Instagram handles are published (site vs Chamber). Posting cadence could not be verified — to confirm.

Tracking2/5

Google Site Kit present, but no GA4/GTM conversion tags visible and no web form on the contact page, so booking intent goes unmeasured.

Website findings

Everything below was observed directly on orthoeast.com on 8 September 2026.

High

Booking page leads with "Please call us"

Radix Health self-scheduling is live (orthoeast.radixhealth.com), but /book-an-appointment/ presents the phone number first and the online option second. The contact page has no web form at all.

Fix: Put the Radix "Schedule online" button above the fold on the booking page, add a short request-a-callback form on Contact, and track both as conversions.
High

No blog or news since 2021

/blog/ returns a 404, the sitemap has no post sitemap, and the only news article is the 2021 ECU "Official Team Physicians" announcement.

Fix: Launch a News & Insights section with two posts a month (see 90-day plan). Topics are already on the site: ROSA, weekend clinic, self-pay bundles, ECU.
Medium

96 URLs with duplicate and legacy pages

Three parallel anatomy hierarchies (/knee-specialties/, /knee-lower-leg/, /sports-medicine/knee-lower-leg/), plus /elbow-2/, /privacy-policy-2/, emeritus and in-memoriam provider pages, and a stray /white/ and /xie/ slug for PT staff.

Fix: Consolidate to one condition hierarchy with 301 redirects and canonical tags in Rank Math; rename provider slugs to full names.
Medium

Homepage stats undersell the practice

The homepage cites "4.8 stars from 2,500+ reviews." rater8 shows 21,465 verified ratings at 4.86.

Fix: Embed the live rater8 widget (or a nightly-synced count) so the number updates itself.
Medium

No structured data, H1 not detectable

No MedicalOrganization, Physician, LocalBusiness or FAQPage JSON-LD found in page metadata, and Divi builder pages do not expose a clear H1.

Fix: Rank Math schema module for organisation, each of the 8 surgeons, and the FAQ page; set an H1 per page in Divi's theme builder.
Low

Design age and performance

Divi build published May 2021; images are lazy-loaded and navigation collapses on mobile. Page speed was not measured in this review — to confirm with a Lighthouse run.

Fix: Lighthouse baseline in phase 1; image compression and caching pass; consider a hero refresh (wireframe below) without a full rebuild.
Good

Security and maintenance

HTTPS works, Site Kit 1.186.0 indicates plugins are current, and content was edited as recently as 1 September (Labor Day closure banner, new OT profile).

Keep: Whoever is editing is doing it well. We would like to confirm who that is so hosting-side updates do not collide.

Homepage hero: before and after

A simple wireframe of the change we would make first. Same design system, no rebuild — lead with the reputation number and the two booking paths.

SEO findings

On-page

  • Title tag is "Orthopaedics East Greenville NC" — 30 characters, no service keyword. Target: "Orthopedic Surgeons & Sports Medicine in Greenville, NC | Orthopaedics East".
  • Meta description is generic and mentions no differentiator (robotic knee, weekend clinic, same-week access).
  • No structured data found despite an FAQ page, 8 physician bios and a single-location practice — ideal candidates.
  • Duplicate content across three anatomy hierarchies splits authority between near-identical pages.
  • Rank Math already installed, so titles, schema, redirects and canonicals can be fixed without a developer.

Keyword gaps we would target

One Greenville location, but the practice serves eastern NC. No service-area pages exist for the towns patients drive in from.

Indexed pages: ~96 static URLs (from the sitemap), zero posts. Traffic figures were not available for this review; a Search Console connection is the first step.

Google Business Profile

What we found

  • Aggregators show ~2,749 Google reviews and a 4.7 aggregate; the GBP itself should be checked for the live figure (to confirm).
  • Categories seen: Orthopedic clinic / Orthopedists, Sports medicine. Suggested additions: Orthopedic surgeon, Physical therapy clinic, Urgent care (for the weekend walk-in clinic), MRI center.
  • Hours conflict. Birdeye lists Mon–Fri 9–6, closed weekends. The site says Mon–Thu 8–5, Fri 8–4:30, Sat–Sun 10–2 walk-in. If GBP matches the directories, the weekend clinic is invisible in Maps.
  • Duplicate listings under "Orthopedic East" / "Orthopedics East" on Nextdoor, Yelp (15 reviews), WebMD and YellowPages; the Birdeye profile is unclaimed.
  • Review recency is excellent on rater8 (this week); Google review recency and owner responses were not verifiable — to confirm.

GBP enhancements

  • Fix hours first and add "Extended Care Clinic — walk-in" as a secondary hours set.
  • Weekly GBP Posts: weekend clinic reminder every Friday, provider spotlight, ROSA explainer, ECU game-week post.
  • Services & Products: list the self-pay bundles (office visit, MRI, PT) with "from" pricing if the practice is comfortable.
  • Q&A seeding: "Do I need a referral?", "Do you take walk-ins?", "Is the MRI on site?", "Do you accept workers' comp?"
  • Photos: facility, MRI suite, ROSA, PT gym, each surgeon — geotagged, refreshed quarterly.
  • Review response cadence: reply to every Google review within 2 business days; route rater8 promoters to Google.
  • UTM-tagged links for website, appointment (Radix) and menu/services so GBP traffic shows in GA4.
  • Claim and merge the duplicate listings; claim Birdeye and Yelp.

Social

Presence and gaps

  • Facebook facebook.com/OrthoEast — 155 reviews via aggregator; provider videos exist (e.g. Dr. Skalak "all under one roof"). Follower count and last post date could not be verified — to confirm.
  • Instagram — the site footer links @orthoeast252 while the Chamber of Commerce listing links @orthoeastnc. Two handles means one is stale or the audience is split. To confirm which is active, then redirect the other.
  • LinkedIn linkedin.com/company/orthoeast — exists; activity not verifiable. Best channel for recruiting (three open roles on Indeed: CMA, PRN rad tech, PT).

What BICS adds

Once bookings are being measured, our sister firm BI Consulting Services can connect ModMed EMA, Radix Health and rater8 into one Power BI operations view for the practice: no-show and fill rate by provider, online vs phone bookings, joint-replacement volume against the 1,000-a-year pace, and the "90% seen within 30 minutes" promise tracked daily instead of quoted annually. See the accompanying sample dashboard and the one-page integration concept.
